The Department would like to congratulate Dr Mootaz Salman who has been conferred the title of Departmental Research Lecturer in recognition of his contribution to his research group and the teaching and research mission of DPAG.
Dr Salman is a member of the Wade-Martins Group in the Oxford Parkinson’s Disease Centre (OPDC). His current research focuses on developing novel therapeutic targets for Parkinson’s using CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering and patient-derived human iPSC lines. In 2022, he will establish his independent line of research in close collaboration with the Wade-Martins Group, investigating the mechanisms of blood-brain barrier dysfunction in dementia using advanced 3D mechanobiologial organ-on-a-chip models.
Dr Salman's teaching is focused on DPAG's graduate students, both as a Supervisor and as a Senior Doctoral Training Advisor (SDTA). Dr Salman is also affiliated with Wolfson College where he is a College Advisor for postgraduate students. Prior to joining DPAG last year, he was a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University.
Dr Salman is a member of DPAG's Graduate Studies Committee. He has also recently joined the newly launched departmental Outreach and Public Engagement Working Group, which aims to identify, promote and deliver departmental and cross-departmental participation in Public Engagement with Research.
On receipt of his appointment, Dr Salman said: “I am very excited about the new role and grateful for the trust the Department has placed in my abilities, the recognition of my previous and current research, and the opportunity to contribute to the teaching and research mission of the Department”.
