Your first day
Meeting HR
On your first day, you will meet with a member of our HR team, either in person or online. If you haven't already, you must provide documents to prove your right to work in the UK.
The HR staff member will provide you with:
1. an induction pack, which includes all the information you need for joining the Department;
2. your University card, which is a form of identification, and information about how to gain access to departmental buildings and rooms;
3. an account to access your computer and the departmental network, as well as an IT Services account (Single Sign-on, or 'SSO'), which grants you access to the University's IT facilities, including email and wifi (and is also used to set up your website profile, which can be done by filling in our intranet profile form, which will be processed by our Communications Officer).
Meeting your team
Next, you will be welcomed by your new line manager and/or team; we have created a checklist to ensure you get all the information you need. Within the first week, you will be given a tour of the building, getting a chance to see all of our facilities, including the reception area and administration offices. Today is also the day to get to know your workplace, and you will be given an overview of the standard health and safety procedures, security and evacuation.
Transport to work
The University webpages gives details of help with loans for bus/train passes and bikes. The University's Science Transit Shuttle serves the South Parks Road campus, the JR Hospital, and other key areas in Oxford, and can be used for University business or commuting (pre-registration required). For those arriving on bike, the Department has a number of bicycle racks around our buildings and throughout the Science Area.
Inductions
You will also be provided with information regarding your Health & Safety and IT inductions, both of which you will receive during your first week.
