Preclinical Imaging Facilities
Our Department has two high resolution Magnetic resonance imaging systems, specialising in in vivo cine and cardiac MRI. We also have access to Hyperpolarized magnetic resonance imaging capabilities.
On average 5-6 animals can be scanned using cine MRI in one session.
3 animals can be scanned using hyperpolarised 13C1 and 13C2 pyruvate.
Magnets

7T (300 MHz) horizontal bore system
In vivo MRI of rats and mice, giving high resolution images of approximately 0.2 x 0.2 x 1.5 mm.
In vivo hyperpolarised 13C MRS in rats and mice.
In vivo perfusion imaging.

11.7 T (500 MHz) vertical bore MRI System
In vivo imaging of mice/small rats, giving high resolution images of approximately 0.2 x 0.2 x 1.5 mm.
In vivo perfusion imaging.
Ex vivo perfusion of rat and mouse hearts for 31P MRS and hyperpolarised 13C MRS
High resolution (20 µm isotropic resolution depending on sample / application) imaging of fixed samples.
