Molecular Physiology of the Mitochondria

Dr. Boyman's research focuses on localized (subcellular) signaling and mitochondrial energy metabolism. He has made significant discoveries in cardiac muscle physiology, including the regulation of calcium efflux from cardiac cells, the quantitative dynamics of calcium movement in cardiac mitochondria, and the regulation of ATP production by mitochondria.

Dr. Boyman has developed and implemented innovative imaging technologies, primarily designed to investigate calcium signals at high temporal and spatial resolutions in both cardiac and cancer cells. Beyond developing new tools, he has collaborated extensively with other researchers to integrate these technologies into their ongoing investigations.
