Associate Professor Samira Lakhal-Littleton has been elected to the Board of Directors of the International BioIron Society (IBIS) at their latest meeting in Heidelberg this month.

The IBIS was founded to advance knowledge about the biological and medical roles of iron and the processes in which it participates with particular reference to those processes of medical and industrial importance. The organisation's objectives are to provide a forum for discussions, to promote research and its publication and advance public education on iron chemistry and biology as well as on disorders due to iron deprivation or excess.

The board of directors are elected every 4 years by a ballot of all the members.

I am deeply honoured to have been elected to the Board of Directors. This is a Society that has been key to my research career, supporting me in the early days of my postdoctoral research and more recently supporting my students with travel bursaries. So I am glad to be in a position to give back to the Society by helping shape its future. - Prof Lakhal-Littleton

The IBIS is the largest organisation aimed at advancing our understanding of the role of iron in biology and medicine.
