Equality and Diversity
In DPAG, we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where the rights and dignity of all are respected. Our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee consults with staff and students to devise and deliver initiatives that enhance our diversity and promote equality. For more information about EDI in DPAG visit our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion pages.
As part of its Equality Policy the University of Oxford aims to provide an inclusive environment which promotes equality, values diversity and maintains a working, learning and social environment in which the rights and dignity of all its staff and students are respected to assist them in reaching their full potential.
The University will work to remove any barriers which might deter people of the highest potential and ability from applying to Oxford, either as staff or students.
Training
All members of the University must comply with the University’s Equality policy. There are also various resources available to help you to develop your knowledge of equality and diversity issues which will, in turn, help you to integrate equality and diversity into your work.
- Equality and diversity briefing is an online course is designed to help you reflect on equality and diversity issues as they affect you in your role at the University.
- Implicit bias is an online course designed to help you understand implicit bias and its effects on behaviour and decision-making at work.
- Race Awareness - Tackling race bias at work - There is considerable evidence that racial bias and discrimination continue to impact negatively on the working lives of people from a Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) background across the UK. Developed in partnership with Professor Binna Kandola, Senior Partner and co-founder of leading business psychology consultancy Pearn Kandola, this course takes a bold look at the nature of ‘modern racism’ and its influence in the workplace. It will offer staff the opportunity to better understand racism in the workplace and make key changes to tackle racism and race bias.
- Little things matter: The impact of micro-behaviours and micro-inequities - Three short videos that explore micro-behaviours and micro-inequities and the important part they play in our working relationships, and in addressing diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
- The Equality and Diversity Unit (EDU) offers a wide range of training and mentoring - see the full list of EDU courses.

Progress to advance race equality is ongoing. Some of the University’s current actions are listed in this resource from the Equality and Diversity Unit. The list is not exhaustive but serves as an example of some of the work that is underway.
The Equality and Diversity Unit has also put together list of resources is for staff and students to deepen their understanding of anti-racism work in higher education. The material included describes how racism manifests in UK society and the university context, and suggests ways to counter it.
