Safety Induction
All new starters should do the online Safety Induction from the Safety Office, Health and Safety Basics eLearning (Induction training | Safety Office (ox.ac.uk)) once they have their University Single Sign On. For those working in labs, a Lab Induction is normally conducted within your first two weeks. Any person requiring unaccompanied access to the buildings will be required to undertake a health and safety induction and to have a visitor or employee contract. If you require out-of-hours access you will need to complete an out-of-hours risk assessment which should be signed by your supervisor.
Your Safety Induction will cover the key areas of safety responsibility, give details of available safety courses and outline the actions you must undertake to be safe. Larger labs will have a safety rep who will be able to help you with lab-specific safety issues.
The departmental safety committee run termly meetings to discuss safety within the department. Committee minutes can be found at this link: Dept. Safety Advisory Committee (DSAC) (SSO required).
Fire exits
Each area will have its own fire exits and assembly points. Your safety officer will point these out to you during your safety induction.
