Sean Hardy

PhD

Visiting Postdoctoral Research Scientist

I completed my undergraduate training in Biotechnology (Bachelor & Honours) at the University of Newcastle (UoN). I then completed a PhD in medicine, established as a first of its kind international collaboration between UoN and the Medical University of Graz, Austria. This cardiovascular research project focussed on understanding the role of novel crosstalk between inflammation and fibrosis throughout wound healing after myocardial infarction. I was most recently appointed as Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Prof Paul Riley’s research group at the University of Oxford; a project funded by the British Heart Foundation. I was also awarded a Junior Research Fellowship by the St. John’s College of Oxford University, funding an independent research programme beginning October 1, 2023. My current work is utilizing translational models to trial the therapeutic potential of stimulating angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis after myocardial infarction to ameliorate the fibrotic response, minimize tissue damage, and improve cardiac outcomes.
