Dr Smilevska acts as the figurehead for departmental anatomy teaching, providing subject expertise to support the development, delivery, and continuous enhancement of the anatomy curriculum within the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She is a member of the respective Medical Sciences Board Course Committees at the University and she contributes to the organisation of undergraduate and postgraduate medical and surgical courses within the department.

Dr. Smilevska has previously completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain. She is a hepato-pancreato-biliary and transplant surgeon with a Master's degree in Clinical and Surgical Research. She has been awarded Fellowship of the European Board of Surgery (FEBS), a prestigious European qualification that recognises a high standard of professional competence, clinical knowledge, technical skills, and professionalism.

Her research interests include pancreas transplantation and medical education. Dr. Smilevska's transplant research focuses on improving outcomes in pancreas transplantation, with particular interests in recipient and donor selection, graft survival, and the optimisation of surgical care for transplant patients. Her medical education research focuses on anatomy education, curriculum innovation, and evaluates the effectiveness of different teaching modalities, through evidence-based studies to inform best practice in medical education and optimise student learning outcomes.
