I am interested in how Artificial neural networks could be used to gain insights about the brain by introducing elements that make them resemble their biological counterparts. My research draws inspiration from adaptive optimization algorithms in machine learning to simulate how the cholinergic system could control synaptic plasticity in biologically plausible neural networks. By studying how this impacts learned neural representations, I hope to shed light on the network effects that neuromodulatory systems have in biological networks.
