Decoding Neural Circuits: From Cortical Interneurons to Claustrum-Amygdala Interactions

My work with Prof. Simon Butt, Dr. Adam Packer, and Dr. Kerry Walker focuses on understanding the development and connectivity of neural circuits in the brain. My research examines the distinct developmental pathways and molecular profiles of interneurons in different regions of the postnatal mouse neocortex, uncovering important differences that contribute to our knowledge of cortical development. Additionally, I investigate the interactions between the claustrum and basolateral amygdala, and their influence on prefrontal cortex activity. Using advanced techniques such as electrophysiology, laser scan photostimulation, RNA sequencing, optogenetics, and two-photon calcium imaging, my work provides valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying neural circuit formation and function, from molecular to systems level, with implications for understanding neurodevelopmental disorders and neural plasticity.
