Ariege Bizanti

PhD

Postdoctoral Research Scientist

My research as part of Keeley’s group explores the role of the cardiac autonomic nervous system in oxygen homeostasis. Specifically, our aim to investigate the expression and functional implications of non-transcriptional reflexes and compensatory mechanisms in oxygen regulation. During my PhD, I focused on the anatomical remodeling of sympathetic and parasympathetic cardiac innervation in response to hypoxia. Now, as a postdoctoral researcher in the Keeley Lab, I am delving into the physiological and molecular mechanisms underlying hypoxia responses, particularly through the recently identified 2-aminoethanethiol dioxygenase (ADO) pathway. Our lab specializes in oxygen homeostasis, with a strong emphasis on non-transcriptional reflexes and compensatory adaptations. My current research will examine G-protein signaling regulation via the ADO-proteasomal pathway in the nervous system. Specifically, I aim to identify regulatory G proteins as ADO substrates in autonomic ganglia and assess their functional implications.
