Alexander Rawnsley

DPhil Student

Alex completed a BA in Medical Science at St Catherine's College, Oxford in 2023. He completed his undergraduate research project with Dr Ed Mann, investigating the electrophysiological effects of Hypocretin/Orexin on murine L6b cortical neurons. He also completed a literature research project under supervision from Prof Heidi de Wet, reviewing the behavioural component of genetic predisposition to obesity in humans. Alex received the Blakemore-Magdalen scholarship and joined the Goodwin group as a DPhil student in 2024. His work focusses on courtship behaviour in Drosophila melanogaster, particularly on identifying and characterising the neural circuits coordinating visual information in the courting male.
