The Coiled-coil-based assembly of gold nanoparticles was analyzed. Varying the peptide sequence to produce coiled coils with different stabilities make flexibility in design easy. Hydrophobic packing at the interface between the peptides is the dominant force of stabilization of the coiled-coil structure. The stability of the coiled coils is modulated by electrostatic interactions across the interface of adjacent helices arising from the side chains of amino acids.
