Congratulations to Sonali Munshaw, a research assistant in the Smart group in DPAG, for her recent success at the BAS annual meeting, held at Queen’s College, Cambridge. Sonali was shortlisted for the BAS Young Investigator competition and awarded the Highest Rated Abstract Prize, selected from more than 80 submitted abstracts. Sonali presented her research, which reveals a novel mechanism regulating growth factor signalling to protect vessels against aneurysm and atherosclerosis, to an audience of almost 200. The highly competitive final was chaired by Professor Sir Nilesh Samani, Medical Director of the British Heart Foundation, and Professor Tomasz Guzik, Editor-in-Chief of the journal Cardiovascular Research. Motivated by the experience, Sonali is now looking forward to starting her DPhil in October, which will further investigate approaches to target LRP1 for vascular protection.
