The Wade-Martins Research Group recently hosted a visit to the Kavli Institute Nanoscience for Discovery, South Parks Road by long-time supporters of the Oxford Parkinson’s Disease Centre (OPDC); Roberta (Bobbie) Coelho and Mary Doherty, along with friends and members of their family.
Bobbie and Mary’s past fundraising for the OPDC have included car boot sales, raffles, knitting, selling jam, scarfs and snoods, hosting events, as well as Bobbie donating the sales of the poetry and children’s books that she has written.
Professor Richard Wade-Martins welcomed the group, and spoke about the Parkinson’s Disease research being carried out by the Group. They were given a guided tour of the laboratory research facilities led by Dr Charmaine Lang and Dr Brent Ryan. During the tour, the group had the opportunity to meet with laboratory scientists; Dr Kalina Naidoo and Akansha Mehta who showcased the specialist equipment used to support their experiments. The visit concluded with an informal chat with scientists from the Group over lunch.
Professor Richard Wade-Martins commented, “The visit was a great opportunity for us to meet with Bobbie and Mary again and to show them around our laboratory so they can see at first-hand how their donations support our scientists. We really appreciate the funds and for their ongoing support with our research into Parkinson’s”.
