Congratulations to Professor Pawel Swietach, who has been made Honorary Professor at Cayetano Heredia University, Peru. Professor Swietach has been working with colleagues at Cayetano Heredia on a Wellcome Discovery Award worth $3.1 million to launch a four-year programme aimed at improving treatment for Chronic Mountain Sickness (CMS)—a debilitating, neglected condition affecting high-altitude populations.

The project will uncover the mechanisms underpinning this systemic condition and turn these insights into better, evidence-based care for a major public health problem that affects some of the most disadvantaged communities across the world.

Professor Swietach comments, ‘DPAG and Cayetano share a long history of collaborative research, including seminal work led by Peter Robbins, Keith Dorrington, and Nick Talbot. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to carry this legacy forward. This partnership offers significant benefits for both institutions.’
