Aksel Saukko-Paavola
Postdoctoral Research Scientist
Aksel is a postdoctoral researcher working in the Klemm Group. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underpinning mitochondrial stress responses, and how this is coupled to changes in membrane lipid metabolism and neutral lipid synthesis.
He uses a mixture of biochemical, imaging and proteomic methods to probe the role of mitoguardin-2 in this response, a lipid transfer protein residing at ER-mitochondria and LD-mitochondria contact sites.
Aksel obtained an MSc in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at the University of Oxford, where he conducted his Part II project in the Mellor group at the Department of Biochemistry, working on in-silico methods to study transcriptional elongation.
