Salary: Grade 10a: £44,620 - £59,914 per annum + college housing allowance of £7,600 p.a.

The Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics invites applications for an Associate Professorship of Physiological Metabolism with effect from 1 September 2015. This is a joint appointment with Somerville College, where the successful candidate will be appointed to a Tutorial Fellowship in Pre-clinical Medicine. The post is offered for five years in the first instance, with reappointment to retirement upon completion of a successful review.

Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics was part of the University of Oxford’s Biological Sciences submission to the Research Excellence Framework that was rated top for its volume of world leading research; and metabolism is one of the key interests in the Department.

The Associate Professor will engage in original and independent research and will be expected to secure research funding and manage research projects. The candidate will help to provide the teaching of physiological metabolism to pre-clinical students and supervise graduate students in research. College duties will include giving tutorials and small classes to undergraduates, and sharing the responsibility for their academic and pastoral welfare. S/He will be expected to undertake some administrative duties in both College and Department.

The successful candidate will have a higher degree (DPhil/PhD) in basic science, evidence of substantial research accomplishment, and a strong publication record. You will be able to demonstrate excellence, or the potential for excellence, in teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels and supervision. You will have current funding, or a research record likely to attract research funding; and be willing to undertake college and departmental administrative duties.
