As the Facilities and Laboratory Safety Officer I am a member of the Facilities team, responsible for supporting the day-to-day safe operation of the department including laboratories and research facilities. Based in the Sherrington Building, I support the Facilities team and research groups in the management of their safety responsibilities under relevant legislation, University policy, guidelines, and rules, working under the guidance of the Laboratory and Safety Manager. I work closely with researchers and with my colleagues in the Facilities team to ensure that the relevant spaces, including laboratories and write-up areas, are appropriately organised and maintained as a safe, clean and professional environment at all times. I assist the facilities team members with maintaining all relevant safety compliance documentation and ensure risk assessments are prepared for all work in the building including workshop activities, repairs, and maintenance.
