Investigating the Effect of Dietary Fat Composition on Systemic, Hepatic, & Cardiac Metabolism & Function

I am medical student from Canada who has come to Oxford to complete a DPhil in Cardiovascular Science before returning to Canada to finish my medical training. I am interested in how alterations in metabolism drive the development of metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes (T2D), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and cardiovascular disease. More specifically, my DPhil project is investigating how dietary fatty acid composition influences systemic, hepatic, and cardiac metabolism and function. To do so, I am working as part of a interdisciplinary team that has extensive expertise in using a combination of human, animal, and cellular models and a variety of stable-isotope, imaging, molecular biology, and bioinformatics techniques.
