Lorenzo Neri

Visiting PhD student

I earned my Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology at the University of Florence, where I conducted an internship focused on the analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples to detect the presence of miRNA of Torque Teno Virus, investigating its potential role in neurodegenerative diseases. I then pursued a Master's degree in Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at the same university. During my Master's internship, I studied the interaction of natural molecules with liposomes used as a model for cell membranes, aiming to identify potential therapeutic applications in neurodegenerative diseases. Currently, I am a PhD student at the University of Florence, and my research project focuses on Alzheimer's disease. Specifically, I investigate the role of calcium ions and the oxidative stress in the early stages of the pathology, with the goal of deepening our understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved and contributing to the onset and progression of the disease.
