Joel Dominique Walter
Graduate Research Student
Joel Dominique Walter is a German MSc student in Molecular and Translational Neuroscience at the University of Ulm. He is particularly interested in how patterns of neuronal activity give rise to internal states and higher cognitive functions. His research centres on understanding how dynamic neural processes are encoded and expressed through behaviour. He is currently conducting his Master's thesis in the laboratory of Professor Gero Miesenboeck at the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics (DPAG), University of Oxford. His Project investigates the molecular and behavioural mechanisms regulating sleep homeostasis, explicitly focusing on the role of neuronal oxidative stress in the build-up of sleep pressure. His research aims to identify behavioural correlates and predictive markers of sleep needs by integrating behavioural quantification, time-series modelling, and computational analysis.
