On Thursday 4 December we were delighted to host Nobel Laureate Professor Ardem Patapoutian, who delivered the Sir Charles Sherrington Prize Lecture to a packed audience that included the VC Professor Irene Tracey. The title of his talk was May the Force Be with You: PIEZO Ion Channels as Essential Pressure Sensors for Touch, Pain, and Beyond.

Professor Patapoutian commented. 'Today was a true privilege to give the Sherrington Prize Lecture at Oxford. A wonderful crowd of young minds asked brave and unexpected questions, followed by a fabulous dinner at Merton College. Thanks to my hosts Irene Tracey and David Paterson, and to everyone who attended the lecture. Giving a lecture named after Sherrington was a special treat for me since he coined and defined the terms proprioception and interoception.'
