Congratulations to Professor Pawel Swietach, who has been awarded a Royal Society Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship. This scheme is for experienced senior and mid-career researchers who would benefit from a period of full-time research without teaching, administration and pastoral care duties.

Professor Swietach says, ‘I am proud to contribute to DPAG’s mission of teaching the next generation of medics and biomedical scientists. However, the coming year will be particularly busy for our lab as we establish research activities in Peru as part of our Wellcome Discovery Award and the launch of a number of translational projects globally. Given the extensive travel required and the need for flexibility while running research on two continents, I applied for a teaching buyout and am delighted that the Royal Society and Leverhulme Trust have agreed to fund my SRF. I would like to wish my teaching replacement every success for the year ahead, and hope their experience in DPAG and my college, Corpus, is a fruitful one.'

The Swietach Group is conducting research across cardiac, cancer and blood themes. You can read more about Professor Swietach’s research here
