Postdoctoral Research Scientist

I completed my masters degree in Zoology from Banaras Hindu University in India, with a specialization in molecular and human genetics, followed by a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Jagat K. Roy, where I developed an interest in the genetics of cellular morphodynamics and associated signalling during the development of an individual, as I tried to address a mechanism of cell polarity associated signalling in an embryonic, wound healing model of Drosophila (The vinegar fly). I further worked as a research associate with Prof. Hilary Ashe (University of Manchester, UK) where I looked into the cellular mechanisms involved in BMP signalling in Drosophila Ovarian germline stem cells, using sophisticated live imaging techniques where I tried to address a mechanism of stem cell fate determination through specialized signalling filopodia known as cytonemes. Here in the Goodwin lab, with by background in fly genetics and development, I now look forward to understand the development and differentiation of the neural stem cells which eventually develop, differentiate and give rise to a sexually dimorphic nervous system in Drosophila, that gives rise male and female specific behaviour patterns.
