I studied pharmacy at Kiel University, Germany. I did my PhD in the Institute of Anatomy at Kiel University. This project was part of a German Research Foundation (DFG)-funded, highly interdisciplinary research group called “Materials for Brain”. My research focused on in vitro models of glial cells during neuroinflammation and glial scaring. As a Visiting Research Fellow, I was also trained the lab of Dr Ben Maoz at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Tel Aviv University, where I worked on in vitro models mimicking the effects of traumatic brain injuries on the neurovascular unit. I finished my PhD in 2023 and stayed at Kiel University as a Postdoctoral Scientist continuing to build upon my previous research on glial cells and neuroinflammation.
In the April of 2024, I joined the group of Dr Mootaz Salman as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist within the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics at the University of Oxford. My current project focuses on building and developing advanced in vitro 3D models of the blood-brain barrier (BBB)-on-a-chip platforms to investigate the mechanisms underlying neuroinflammation in neurodegeneration and CNS injuries.
