Katy Yalci

PhD

Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Katy is a post-doctoral research associate in Robin Klemm’s lab. She studies mitochondrial remodeling during stress with a particular interest in machinery that transports lipids between mitochondria and other organelles. Katy uses advanced mass spectrometry proteomics, biochemistry and cell biology to tackle this fascinating problem. Katy obtained a PhD from the University of Bristol in biochemistry from Bernadette Carroll’s lab, which focuses on cellular nutrient responses, where she discovered novel machinery involved in lipid droplet biogenesis. Now, she builds on this expertise to unravel the function of mitochondrial-lipid droplet contact sites in cell stress. Eventually, her goal is to use structural biology in combination with molecular dynamics simulation to understand the mechanisms orchestrating the involved machinery.
