I am a studying for a DPhil in Cardiovascular Science (funded by the British Heart Foundation), and am investigating ways in which we can modulate the clearance of immune cells from the heart after myocardial infarction (heart attack). Immune cells are important for cardiac repair, but this process also leads to long-term scarring which puts extra strain on the heart, often leading to heart failure further down the line. My research aims to help understand how we can alter this by promoting clearance of immune cells via the lymphatic system to decrease the prevalence of heart failure after myocardial infarction. Prior to starting my DPhil at Oxford, I completed an integrated masters in Biological Natural Sciences (specialising in Biochemistry) at the University of Cambridge and also worked there as a lab technician for a year in the Zernicka-Goetz lab in the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience (PDN).
