The National Undergraduate and Graduate Neuroanatomy Competition (https://natneurocomp.com) took place last on Saturday 30 May 2026 at University of Glasgow. The University of Oxford had its largest number of entries (the Oxford student competitors are pictured above).
In a truly impressive competition half of all distinctions (5 out of 10) at the competition were awarded to Oxford medical students. The students who received distinctions were Zain Ali, Wai Fu, Ziad Elderini, Divya Ganesh and Natasha Wheeler. Professor Zoltan Molnar comments, 'We are very proud of them and all the participants. We would like to say thanks to Kush Kale (5th year medicine at St John’s College), and Mrs Sharmila Rajendran, Departmental Lecturer in Anatomy, for the preparatory sessions - and we are grateful to all the Demonstrators and Prosectors who participated in the practical teaching of this year’s cohort during the academic year.
Leanne Mabena (St John’s) who participated in the competition, comments, 'The Neuroanatomy Competition was an amazing experience that allowed me to test my knowledge, meet new people, and further develop my interest in neuroscience. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and the opportunity to apply my understanding of neuroanatomy in a competitive setting. The competition was both engaging and educational, and I would highly recommend it to other students interested in neuroscience. I hope to take part again in the future.'
