The annual lecture is held in honour of one of the great physiologists of the last century, Marianne Fillenz. Fillenz was a devoted and much loved University Demonstrator in the Laboratory of Physiology and her lab was positioned at the forefront of the application of measuring chemicals that could be detected directly at the electrode.

DPAG Academics deliver UNIQ Summer School in Medicine classes

UNIQ is open to students studying in their first year of further education, who are based at UK state schools or colleges. The Summer School provides an opportunity for students to receive first-hand experience of life at university, meet like-minded people and gain a deeper understanding of a subject that interests them.
Cardiac, metabolism and cell physiology researchers come together for Integrative Physiology Theme Day

The Department's third and final theme day of the year culminated in a series of exciting internal talks from a diverse range of research groups covering all aspects of integrative physiology. From diabetes to iron deficiency, from pH physiology to cancer cells, the talks showcased the huge breadth of science studied across DPAG.
Next generation of scientists meet CRISPR pioneer

The Department hosted a special public understanding of science lecture, the Sherrington Prize Lecture, delivered by Dr Jennifer Doudna FRS on Tuesday 25 June. Dr Doudna outlined research into CRISPR-cas9 gene editing to a captivated audience including graduate students and local sixth form Biology students.

A series of internal talks demonstrated an extensive breadth of research within the Development and Cell Biology Theme that tackles the questions fundamental to understanding evolution, growth, organ formation, the onset of disease and tissue regeneration. DPAG Researchers were also joined by two external speakers presenting their research into age-related angiocrine signals and stem cell strategies for lung development.
