We also extend a warm welcome to Professor Stevens’s large, interdisciplinary research group whose members are drawn from disciplines across the medical and physical sciences.

Congratulations are in order for Professor Jaideep Pandit, Professor of Anaesthesia and consultant anaesthetist, who has received the rarely awarded prestigious Gold Medal of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Professor Pandit was a student and research fellow at DPAG and is now an Academic Visitor in the department; he is also a Fellow and Tutor in Medicine at St John's College.

The annual Burdon Sanderson Prize lecture, given this year by Professor Richard W. Tsien, a pioneer in the study of calcium channels and synaptic transmission, is held in honour of John Burdon Sanderson (1828 - 1905), the University of Oxford's first Waynflete Professor of Physiology, after whom the Cardiac Centre is named.
