A research team from the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences led by Gwenaëlle Douaud (with Andrea Nemeth, Michele Hu and other clinical collaborators) have shown for the first time non-invasively in humans a differential, clinically meaningful impact of Huntington’s and Parkinson’s diseases on the sensorimotor functional connection of the subthalamic nucleus and sensorimotor cortex.

Researchers develop a blood test to identify individuals at risk of developing Parkinson’s disease

Research carried out at the University of Oxford has led to the development of a new blood-based test to identify the pathology that triggers Parkinson’s disease before the main symptoms occur. This could allow clinicians to screen for those individuals at high risk of developing the disease and facilitate the timely introduction of precision therapies that are currently at clinical trial stage.

Researchers characterise the landscape of somatic mutations among acid-base transporters in human cancers

A new paper lead by DPhil student Bobby White and Professor Pawel Swietach from DPAG’s Swietach Group explores the role that somatic mutations affecting plasma membrane acid-base transporters play in human cancer evolution. The team identify acid-base transporters that are essential to cancer cell survival, and those where somatic mutations are likely to play a driving role in certain cancer types.
