Two projects aimed at tackling heart failure led by Associate Professor Sarah De Val and Dr Joaquim Vieira are to be funded by the 2022 TCS London Marathon with the British Heart Foundation as its Charity of the Year. The BHF’s runners, who are raising £3 million in funding, will include De Val Lab postdoctoral researcher Dr Alice Neal.

Visiting academic Dr Lizzie Burns received an outreach grant from The Physiological Society to create a novel set of engaging drawings for adult colouring-in to learn about our remarkable human body. Dr Burns has collaborated with members of The Society, including DPAG's Heidi de Wet, Peter Robbins, Keith Dorrington and Andrew King, to illustrate a wide range of physiological topics.

An international event held on Saturday 7 March and organised by DPAG's Cristiana Vagnoni and Tai-Ying Lee aimed to increase visibility of women in academia by creating or enhancing their online presence in the form of Wikipedia profiles. A new report from the organisers shows some impressive statistics, including 160,000 views of newly edited and created articles, demonstrating a strong effort to raise the profiles of many female academics.

Stewart Humble came to the Wade-Martins Lab at DPAG from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans during Michaelmas Term in October 2016 as part of the National Institutes of Health Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Programme (NIH-OxCam), an accelerated, individualised doctoral training programme, to help him make the transition to a Physician-Scientist career path. This opened up the world of basic science, translational research, and international collaboration. Over the summer of 2019, Stewart organised a lab symposium to encourage and inspire students from his home university to consider the opportunities available to them. This is the story of his journey to Oxford and what he has discovered here.
