\n \n \n \nProfessor David Paterson, in collaboration with the UCLA\u2019s Professor Kalyanam Shivkumar, has been awarded a prestigious Leducq International Network of Excellence Program Award of $8 million (\u00a36.3M) to set up a major new transatlantic network linking world leading researchers from the USA and Europe to develop \u2018Bioelectronics for neurocardiology diagnosis and therapeutics\u2019.

\n \n \n \nProfessor Ashcroft, who discovered the previously missing link connecting an increase in blood sugar level to the secretion of insulin (the KATP channel), delivered a talk about her pioneering research in honour of Sir Hans Krebs, the 1953 Nobel Laureate in Physiology and Medicine who discovered the critic acid cycle.

Tsien, a pioneer in the study of calcium channels and synaptic transmission, is held in honour of John Burdon Sanderson (1828 - 1905), the University of Oxford's first Waynflete Professor of Physiology, after whom the Cardiac Centre is named.
