Undergraduate Student

I am currently in the third year of my Integrated Masters (MBiochem) in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford, and have joined Dr. Filipa Simões for an internship project.

With the Simões group, we aim to determine the role of cardiac macrophages in post-injury tissue regeneration in the zebrafish heart. This property is absent in human heart tissue where macrophages instead regulate scar tissue formation. We are using transcriptomics to investigate differential gene expression between macrophages in both wild-type and post-injury zebrafish cardiac tissue. This can eventually provide us with potential therapeutic targets to improve regenerative properties of the human heart.
