Billy Leung

Surgical Anatomist

  • Chief Demonstrator

Billy Leung qualified as a doctor (MBBS) in 2011 from Barts & The London, where he also obtained an intercalated degree (BSc) in Sports & Exercise Medicine. After completing foundation training, he became an anatomy demonstrator at Kings College London and completed his Master's degree (MSc) in Plastic Surgery at UCL. In 2014, he started his core surgical training (CST) in Oxford and attained his Membership of Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) and Diploma of Head & Neck Surgery (DOHNS) qualifications during this time. After completing CST, he decided to embark on a career in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS), thus commencing a 3-year dentistry programme (BDS) at Kings College London, from which he graduated this year. He is currently dual-qualified in medicine and dentistry and hopes to apply to a specialist training post in due course.

Billy has a strong passion for teaching and anatomy, with a particular interest in the head and neck region. His role as a surgical anatomist at the university focuses on enhancing and maintaining the quality of the anatomy teaching in the dissection room (DR). This role involves: teaching and facilitating DR anatomy sessions, liaising with senior teaching staff and demonstrators, preparing teaching materials (including resources and prosections) and assisting with research projects. Billy hopes to explore the usage of newer educational technologies, such as 3D printing and 4D visual platforms, in anatomy teaching. He is also currently training to become a medical illustrator and he hopes to integrate his artistic flair into these educational platforms.
