Electron Microscopy
Jeol 1010 Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) allowing 2D imaging of specimen ultrastructure at up to 100,000x magnification.
Contact
All enquiries should be directed to Professor Helen Christian.
Based in the Le Gros Clark Building, the TEM has an easy to use control console and users are up and running after an hour of training.
Images are collected with a digital GATAN Orius camera.
Examples of use
- Characterisation of cellular ultrastructure (e.g. mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum etc).
- Examination of negatively stained particulate samples e.g. proteins, liposomes, exosomes
- Electron tomography, produce 3D reconstructions of organelles
Specimen Preparation
The Specimen Preparation lab is available for users to process a wide range of biological specimens for electron microscopy.
Most biological specimens require extensive processing before they can be imaged in an electron microscope.
Contact Helen Christian for the full requirements and available equipment.
Pricing
TEM facilities and training are offered to researchers on a full economic cost recovery basis.
Staff, maintenance and infrastructure costs are recovered together with a contribution towards equipment renewal by an hourly charge for use of equipment.
