We also extend a warm welcome to Professor Stevens\u2019s large, interdisciplinary research group whose members are drawn from disciplines across the medical and physical sciences.

Tsien, a pioneer in the study of calcium channels and synaptic transmission, is held in honour of John Burdon Sanderson (1828 - 1905), the University of Oxford's first Waynflete Professor of Physiology, after whom the Cardiac Centre is named.

\n \n\n \n \n \nOn Monday 17 October 2022, as part of The Physiological Society roadshow at the University of Oxford, Emeritus Professor of Cardiovasular Physiology Denis Noble FRS unveiled a new plaque honouring the Department's first Waynflete Professor of Physiology, Sir John Burdon Sanderson.
