The Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics is a global community and fully intends to remain so. While the UK’s vote to leave the EU presents challenges and uncertainties to the University as a whole, we will continue to engage fully with our European colleagues and collaborators, just as with those from further afield.

To illustrate our international ethos, the Medical Sciences Division as a whole holds around one third of the University’s visas, and with more than 10% of that share, DPAG is currently the Division’s largest sponsor of Tier 2 and Tier 5 visas.

Over half of my group members, past and present, come from overseas, with almost a third from EU countries. Half of our Graduate students are not from the UK and one fifth of the total are from the EU. I joined the University from New Zealand and a previous Head of Department, Professor Sir George Radda, is Hungarian.

We have always invited, welcomed and supported the great wealth of foreign talent that is out there in the global science community as an essential and integral part of this vibrant department. Please be assured: Britain leaving the EU will not change that.
