Dr Jon Cornwall will present his recent work on the functional anatomy of the cervical spine muscles, providing new insights into the function of these muscles and highlighting how research in functional anatomy still has relevance to practicing clinicians who deal with spinal rehabilitation. He will give an outline of his work on the anterior cervical spine muscles and suboccipital muscles, then detail patterns of age-related morphology that occur in these muscles. This will lead on to his work on age-related change in skeletal muscle, and discussion about how the process of age-related change in muscle may in fact differ from commonly held beliefs about this process.
