Research Facilities

The MRC Unit is housed in newly refurbished laboratories within the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics.

Experimental facilities include low and high power microscopy for pathology (expression or immunohistochemical) analysis and cell biology, real-time quantitative RT-PCR machines, cryostat and vibratome facilities for histology or primary slice culture, laser-capture microdissection microscope for expression (e.g. transcriptomics) studies, and mouse behavioural apparatus for assessing a range of phenotypes (e.g. activity, circadian rhythms, motor function).

The computing facilities allow fast access to the internet, database searching, and there is bioinformatics advice available on the interpretation of data from various genome projects. Data storage and processing resources include linux clusters (600 cores), high performance storage systems (200TB) and high memory computational servers.
