The Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics has been awarded an Athena SWAN Silver Award for its commitment to advancing women's careers.

It is with great pleasure that we announce that the Department has been awarded an Athena SWAN Silver Award in recognition of its commitment to tackling gender inequality in higher education.

The Head of Department, Professor Peter Robbins, thanked the members of the Athena SWAN Implementation Committee and its chair, Professor Damian Tyler, for leading the Department to this success, and for their hard work. Similarly, Professor Robbins thanked the many members of the Department who took part in the survey on which the Department's application was heavily based.

Across the country, 97 awards were given out in total, with only 24 departments either receiving or retaining their Silver awards - further details are available at the Equality Challenge Unit website, http://www.ecu.ac.uk/news/recipients-of-prestigious-athena-swan-award-announced/
