Rishi Anand
DPhil Student
I am reading for a DPhil in Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics in the Cragg group, having been awarded an MRC Enterprise (Industrial CASE) studentship in collaboration with Cerevance Ltd. based in Cambridge, UK.
I completed my undergraduate studies at University College London, where I obtained an MSci. (Hons) degree in Neuroscience. In my final year I completed a laboratory project with Prof. Stefan Trapp in the department of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology, where I used calcium-imaging to investigate the activity of neurones in the nucleus tractus solitarius that express glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1).
Over the course of my DPhil project, I will investigate the mechanisms by which different neurotransmitters are able to modulate striatal dopamine release and whether these may be exploited in the dysfunction of dopaminergic transmission in diseased states, such as Parkinson's disease. Primarily, I will be using the electrochemical technique fast-scan cyclic voltammetry to achieve this.
