Dr Rebecca Burton from the Department of Physiology, Anatomy & Genetics was awarded a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship.

Dr Rebecca Ann Burton is joining what is a very exciting year for the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, as 2015 not only marks the anniversary of Churchill’s death, but also 50 years since the founding of the Trust.

“I am very excited to receive a Churchill Fellowship in Science and Engineering which will allow me to travel to the USA. This is a great opportunity for me to establish new collaborations and to further my knowledge and skills in novel technologies being employed to research cardiac arrhythmias.”

The Churchill Travelling Fellowships provide a unique opportunity for British citizens, from all backgrounds to travel overseas to bring back fresh ideas and new solutions to today’s issues, for the benefit of others in the UK. This allows them to maximise what they can achieve in their lifetime, both as leaders and role models to inspire others, but also in terms of personal development. In the process they gain fresh perspectives on their own field of interest and return with enhanced expertise, able to be more effective at work and in their contribution to the community. The knowledge exchange is two-way with long-lasting connections made between Fellows and their hosts, creating valuable overseas networks.

The Trust receives around 1,200 applications every year and award around 100 Fellowships annually. The new 2015 Fellows will be travelling to 58 countries between them, across 6 continents, researching a wide range of important subjects.
