The Department of Physiology, Anatomy, and Genetics (DPAG) brings together researchers from a diverse range of disciplines in the biomedical sciences to form one of the strongest research environments within the UK. The department has a very high international reputation in key areas of biomedical research, including neuroscience, cardiac science, ion channels and transporters, functional genetics and genomics. It is the largest pre-clinical department in Oxford and has the second highest research grant income in the Oxford Medical Sciences Division. The scope of the ongoing research, close connections with other research centres and the clinical departments, offer graduate students excellent opportunities for both their research and training.
Research in the Department is carried out by several strong, independent but interrelated groups addressing the challenges of modern Biomedical Sciences. A list of currently available doctorate student projects is available here.
In addition to these projects, there may also be the opportunity to study with other research groups in the Department. Prospective students are encouraged to browse the research pages of this website to identify academics and groups with whom they share research interests, and to contact potential supervisors directly.
There are six major research groupings:
- Ion Channels, Transporters and Signalling
- Metabolism and Endocrinology
- Functional Genomics
- Neuroscience
- Development and Reproduction
- Cardiac Science
