Richard Boyd was an undergraduate in Oxford and completed his medical training in London. He was a research student in Oxford following clinical work in Papua New Guinea. He was a University Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Dundee and returned to the academic staff in Oxford in 1980. He is currently Deputy Head of the Division of Medical Sciences and Vice Principal of Brasenose College.
Richard Boyd is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. He was formerly Chairman of the Editorial Board of Journal of Physiology; Chair of the Physiological Society Council; and Senior Secretary of the Physiological Society. He is the 2006/7 GL Brown lecturer of the Physiological Society. He currently serves on the Editorial Board of 'Physiological Genomics'; and of 'Surgery', and he chairs the Education Committee of the Medical Sciences Division. He is a GMC visitor.
Richard Boyd’s research interests are related to membrane transporters. He has worked on a variety of basic and applied problems that overlap with gastroenterology, obstetrics, intensive care and renal physiology and pathophysiology. His lab currently enjoys strong interaction with the groups of Clive Wilson, David Meredith and Deborah Goberdhan. They are particularly interested in the roles of amino acid and peptide transporters.
